The illest muthaf*cker in a cardigan sweater

Freshly showered, gettin' dressed.
Today's too beautiful to spend inside, it's one of those perfect September days that make me love fall so much: bright and crisp and just chilly enough.
I'm not wearing socks and my toesies are cold; time to toss on a cute dress and some tights and play in the sunshine.

Yesterday Ty and I scoped the scene at the V&V in Kildonan Place and scored some sweet pics of me droppin' bad beatz, a purse of laces and witnessed a kid with fake eyebrows as sideburns. Awesome!

Tonight we're rollin with Saget Jabez and heading out for drinksies and bites to eat with friends, should be a killer time as usual!

Lay dagger dead inside a lonely bed

After Tweeting about an important lunchbreak decision napping under my desk I emerged and started trollin' Teh Internetz in search of amusement while I finished off an English Muffin.

I found this trailer over at Laurenoutloud for Catfish, which a quick Google search told me not to watch because it apparently does nothing for the film.

Well I watched it anyway, and so should you, because trailers (generally) kick ass and this movie looks s'wicked.

Also I love their promo website, check it out.
Seriously.
Do it.

So between The Social Network (exciteexciteexcite)and Catfish there are two movies coming out this fall about FaceBook and I find that interesting; it's such a huge social phenomena and I don't think a lot of people take the time to stop and think about how online social networking has changed how we interact with each other.

Wired had an interesting article on how behavior spreads through online social networks that I read this morning, though it mentioned that it can't be used for Twitter or FaceBook yet due to the ever-changing dynamics and sheer volume of information.

There are posts coming out all the time on how to analyze FaceBook and Twitter just passed over 145 million users, so it doesn't look like we'll get comprehensive info on that anytime soon.

I wonder what it would look like if we could?

I honestly think we'd be creeped out by the answer.

Modern man

Woke up at 6:30 to Ty's alarm and didn't get back to sleep; had a hashbrown scramble with a fried egg for breakfast and the calories kick-started my system into waking up. Sometimes all you need's a little grease in the morning, don't you think? It's hard to stay cheerful and upbeat when morning looks like night so I wore the brightest skirt possible with suede boots to combat the rainy day blues.

Love the pattern; have the yellow-y light in my office; I can't wait to trade the office flourescents for the flourescents in the classroom and the recording studio at the university.

I listened to an old TED Talk by Mattieu Ricard on the "habits of happiness" today and it got me thinking about what makes me happy; seeing my friends smile, the smell of rain, the smell of fall, school supplies, the way Tyrone look at me, stupid inside jokes, the new Arcade Fire album, my ring tone on my phone, Kate Beaton comics about Nancy Drew, my Mixhard crew, knee-high socks, bubble umbrellas... I honestly could go on!

Coffee date with Ian shortly, delicious salad for lunch plus a run to the university for some last-minute stuff regarding my job there, Grandma's birthday tonight which means a card and flowers for the lady I love the most in this world and an evening with the man I love the most.

This dreary Thursday is going to be great, weather be damned.

She owns a lot of nice flashlights

It's always when I'm busiest that I feel the most secure, productive, complete, happy. I revel in the exhaustion that simultaneously frustrates me and forces me to push harder; I don't give up easily these days.
Between the River Barge Festival, waking up too early on Saturday, the No Pants Party on Saturday evening and being busy, busy, busy in general I've neglected some hardcore "Alyson Time" that is genuinely needed.

Ever just have those nights where you need to sit in your underwear watching 30 Rock eating snacks and sipping on white wine after a nice long bath before an early bedtime. Mmmmm sleepytimez. Yeah, I need one of those baaaaad.

The way school needs teachers
The way Kathy Lee need Regis
That's the way I need Jesus sleep.

That being said, I'm going to change into my comfiest pajamas and curl up in bed - I want to stay up and visit with Gord but I don't know what he's coming home. I miss my roommate so I bought him some Dr. Pepper and milk from the store, it's in the fridge with a smiley note.

Cheesy? Yes, but that's how I keep it real up in n'yah.

Night kiddos.

Superheroes

What kind of superhero did you want to be when you were little? For me it was usually a toss-up between Sailor Moon and the Pink Ranger -what? I was a little girl in the 90's!- but eventually resigned myself to the fact that being a superhero probably wasn't a valid career choice and moved on with life.

But there are some people who don't let the fact that they weren't born in Eternia or inbued with the Power Cosmic stand between letting them do good in the world; these are the people of the Real Life Superhero Project- a collection of everyday people who don a superhero mark, helmet or cape in hopes of inspiring others.

None of these people can fly or have X-ray vision but they all do amazing things like give out blankets to the homeless, create neighbourhood partols to fight crime, form community outreach programs and teach children about tolerance and civility.

Check out an interview with them here:

This is really creative and imaginative way of reaching out to people, especially children. I know if a guy dressed as a superhero came and talked to me about tolerance and safety I'd be much more interested than if it were a regular police officer. There's always something so enthralling about the idea of a "superhero", and these people seem to have the right idea.

Besides wouldn't the thought of a masked vigilante in your neighbourhood watching over people and keeping them safe help you sleep a little better at night?

4chan and the puppy-throwing girl

Well kids, looks like 4chan's /b/ board is on the hunt again.

Sipping my coffee this morning I sat at my desk in a fabulous mood until this article on Gawker nearly made me cry. Seriously. Seriously.

Watch the video if you want, but this is literally some of the sickest, most vile shit I've ever seen. I never, ever condone animal abuse and this is an intensely graphic video. What could ever bring someone to do something like this is beyond me.

So watch, but put down your McMuffin first because you might choke watching this.

So the video made it's way to /b/ with this comment: "Find this dumb little bitch and throw her into a river."

And you know what? I agree. Cat Lady from last week was one thing, but throwing puppies in a river? Are you kidding me?

Not only is it blindingly inhumane and cruel, but to make a video of it and put it up on youtube where anyone 4chan could find it is so dumb.

Really, really dumb.

The article said they're in the process of zeroing in on the girl and outing her to the public; unfortunately this might not be a 24-hr job like Cat Bin Lady, but I'm sure that, as always, the defenders of Teh Internetz (and kitties and puppies!) will bring justice.

I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine

Super, super tired tonight guys so instead you get a stupid vlog blurb of me talkin' some nonsense.

I need to do this more often to get some practice and not be so nervous (I'm also exhausted) so expect more of these in the future- ideally about more relevant things and without my sketchy-time shifty eyes.

Night dears, xo.

Don't need money don't need cars

Weekend was a great success as this photo and many Tweets from Saturday night made apparent.
I spent more time taking photos with my iPhone than my SLR camera (they're just blurry due to wine and jello shooters, f'realz). I'm digging not just the ability to have a camera on-hand constantly but also the hi-rez quality of the photos. Have you seen the ones of the moon? Amazing!

Maybe it's my shiny new toy or that I start a whole new chapter in my amazing life next week when classes start but not even the super-gloomy weather can get me down today.

Booster Juice snack, run to the bank, play in some puddles in the rain.

I love today.

Mostly she wasn't there

Saturday Ty and I got up at 7am and waited in line at the (only) Apple store to score ourselves some sweet iPhone4 action.

It's Baby's First iPhone and symbolized my ascension into the world of Adult Phones.

In light of this momentous event, here's a vid of me being shitfaced smashing my old flip phone to bits.

Yay.

Just eat it

Foodgasm.
Courtsey of Best Boyfriend Ever.

Carrot tomato and ginger soup.
Curried corn salsa.
Mashed sweet potatoes with brown sugar.
Wasabi mashed potatoes.
Sweet chili chocolate chicken.

Yum.
