Rob Brydon knows best

my advice for you today is this: don't clean while wearing a sweater. I did a bunch of running around this afternoon buying snacks for yet another wine party and realized the apartment is a sty and did a crazy whirlwind clean while listening to the entire first Protomen album (listen to them their stuff is like sex for your ears) and now I'm kind of all frazzled-looking and my hair is crazy cat woman-esque and I'm just going to throw one of those sloppy beanie-type hats on tonight and act like it's the look I was going for the whole time. also I'm sweaty.

should I shower again today? yes or no? like you care.

Tyrone was out having a man-date with @morleyrigged and @ckomus they were having a 'jam sesh' which is where Komus DJs and Tyrone and Morley do VJ stuff to match. it's actually really neat and I don't know how to do it at all. in case you didn't know Tyrone and Morley are Union Union and they do really sweet VJ stuff. Komus is a kickass DJ but you knew that already.

while Tyrone was out I went on an adventure and had a latte at the new Stella's in the Buhler Centre downtown with Will and he bought me these omg:

he got me the shark and I'm basically dying over this. I wish I could get my hands on some helium because how awesome would this be to be 'swimming' around the apartment tonight while we're all blasted on wine or anytime really?

also here is a text conversation I just had:

Tyrone: I'm missing mah baby

Alyson: MISSINGYOUGUY

I'm going to go play Super Mario RPG

working on a big post but it's not ready yet

I don't know how to end it.

so instead you get to read about how we went and hung out in the North End today which was nice because it was 32 degrees, sunny, slightly windy and I wasn't hungover from the at-home wine party Tyrone and I threw ourselves last night because it's been a rough week and it was friday so why not?

we shot a bunch of vid of the neighbourhood around Mountain and McGregor which is where my Grandma's old house is. she lived there from the time she was two to when she was 77 can you believe that? if you aren't from Winnipeg let me tell you that parts of the North End ain't what they used to be, and even though someone was shot in a gang fight two nights after my Grandma moved out I didn't get scarytime vibes walking around today. at least in the St John's (park, school, street, etc) part of the North End it seemed really nice and I felt 100% safe.

and yes I know I shouldn't write off an entire neighbourhood based on the fact that it's got a bad reputation and I'm not trying to. in a roundabout way I'm trying to say that not every part of the North End of Winnipeg is somewhere to avoid. everywhere's got bad neighbourhoods and if you go a few streets over in my neighbourhood (West Broadway) there's some sketchy ish that goes down.

like last night when we saw a dude get arrested!

Tyrone was out having a smoke outside and he ran upstairs and was all "omg they're arresting someone RIGHT NOW!" so we peeped over the sills of our front window and sure enough two cop cars were arresting some dude who, according to Tyrone who saw it happen (someone else was already calling the cops) was all wasted and trashing the porch of the house across the street. so of course we rubbernecked hard and watched it go down and I've never seen anyone get arrested before and it was weirdly interesting? I'm not sure why, maybe it was the wine.

so today while we were walking around shooting video these kids (seriously, like ten years old or younger) were walking past us and one kid as like "hey you wanna buy some kush?" and later at Machray Park we saw him working out a deal with some chick who was maybe twelve. it was ridiculous she was standing by the fence on the corner and he was on the swings yelling his prices to her. ridiculous!

anyway it's time for perogies and some Alfred Hitchcock Presents before we go out to ManyFest in a bit.

so busy.

speaking of 60's themes

Tyrone tells me that ABC is doing a show about a Pan Am stewardess called "Pan Am" set in the 60's and apparently might be decent because the guy who directed The West Wing and the guy who produced ER are working on it, but I haven't seen either show so I can't tell you what I think.

actually I can, it looks like Mad Men but with airplanes.

also whenever I think of stories about stewardesses I think about that movie with Gwyneth Paltrow in it called View from the Top which I didn't like.

but I have to stop blogging now because Tyrone wants to watch the original Psycho which I haven't seen and I know he wants me to watch, so no more blogging for tonight. waah.

6pm on a Sunday

Tyrone is playing Fallout New Vegas. He's in Camp McCarran talking to NCR Rangers and we're inhaling chips and a dip I made out of cream cheese and salsa with chips. Not the best snack but dinner won't be ready for a while.

We're making Moroccan slow-cooker chicken that's going to be insane. here's what's in it:

1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into 2 inch pieces
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
3 fresh peaches - peeled, pitted and sliced
1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained
1 cup chopped dried apricots
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups chicken broth
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
1/3 cup slivered almonds, toasted

needless to say the apartment smells amazing and we're making up for it by inhaling this unhealthy snack until we can devour that tastiness over some couscous.

plus I've been running three miles every other day so I don't feel too bad.

it's weird to be running on a treadmill, for years my huge boobs made it impossible to run on anything but an elliptical which is bo-ring. something about a treadmill is better, easier, maybe it's that the found keeps coming at you instead of you moving over it. I don't know. I just think about it all the time. like, all the time.

last night Ty went to a potluck our friends hosted and brought ginger beef, but I had a headache and was tired from painting the office all week and running all those miles and being stressed out so I stayed home and watched 12 Monkeys, part of Marie Antoinette and then Vertigo.

Vertigo was amazing but I can't get behind Kim Novak's drawn-on eyebrows

I get that it's the 1950's style but I just don't think the go with her hair. maybe that's the point. now I'm cruising around the 'vintage' section on easy because I'm inspired by the classy decor of the Vertigo movie sets and also the music from the video game.

now Tyrone is throwing phones around and doing drugs.

I mean in Fallout, sillies.
