Pat Martin dropped the f-bomb on Twitter today

- by admin

for you non-Winnipeggers Pat Martin is the New Democrat MP for Winnipeg Centre (my riding! big ups!) and has been the MP here for nearly fourteen years. lots of people don't like him because, admittedly, he's known for being a bit of a loudmouth, as was demonstrated during this exchange on Twitter just now that has a lot of people getting upset:

I'm sorry... no matter how unprofessional it may be, it's still the best response ever. I think it's great.

Now I understand that profanity is an iffy thing, even in social media, and that saying "fuck you" directly isn't the most 'professional' way to handle it, but when someone tries to go about trolling you by dragging religion into it, frankly I can totally understand why he said it. You can't feed the trolls, the best way to deal with them is to deal with them quickly and directly, which the response certainly was.

And let's be honest: despite being a loudmouth Pat Martin is undefeated in his riding since he was first voted in, so obviously people appreciate that there's someone out there with the balls to say what needs to be said, even if he may not always be diplomatic in saying it.

@shawncarthy sums it up best:

it's late

- by admin

you don't want to hear me bitch about the headache I've had all day

or the 4.5hrs I spent on campus glued to a chair in the library working on my History of Science paper

the fact that my class went to see some MLA's debate on poverty in my province and Gord Mackintosh talked in circles and let the NDP down (sorry guy)

or that the data that I pay 30$/mth for decided to DIE COMPLETELY during the debate which meant I couldn't tweet my oh-so-interesting thoughts about it

and you know, seriously, Rogers, why has your service been so awful lately? my texts don't go through, my data cuts out constantly or is so slow there's no point in using it... maybe I should think about calling you and getting my bill adjusted because this is seriously a bunch of bovine stercus

but this isn't a post about that, either because you don't want to hear me bitch at length about the awful reception, dropped call, and data that barely works at the best of times.

or maybe it is, because I can't seem to stop typing about how annoyed I am with their service lately.

sorry guys, better luck tomorrow.

here's a cool video of some art to make up for it:

Jack Layton passed away today

- by admin

he was 61 and he had cancer and I am very, very upset about it

for my non-Canuck pals Jack Layton was the leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada. he was the official leader of the Official Opposition to the Conservative Party, which holds a majority government right now.

he was an amazing person who fought hard for important things in our country and had a vision for Canada that I think has been lost by the people in charge right now

politics are huge and even if you don't agree with someone's policies it's impossible not to say that my country lost a great person this morning

he's right up there with Tommy Douglas, Stephen Lewis and Pierre Trudeau. he was an amazing Canadian and a really cool, interesting person.

he rode his bike to work every morning, did you know that?

there was a shot of him at The Olympics in '10 with his wife and he was clearly wasted watching hockey and I thought "you're so cool Jack Layton"

and I met him during his campaign. I shook his hand and he looked me in the eye and I feel stupid for saying so but it changed me in a way I can't describe. I told him I believed in him and I did.

I went to go get a stress coffee because everyone in my office is talking about it and being upset and it's depressing me even more and now I'm back and it's just as bad. maybe worse.

funny how something like this affects you. and the people around you.

everyone I know is fucked-up about this right now

I'm going to go run on the treadmill and cry and pretend it's sweat or workout tears or something I don't know.
